People have been telling me for years I go too hard on the nuclear family and its role in maintaining all of this. But that one (or two, or many) racist you let infect your family all these years has been voting and donating and empowering this whole time, with the inertia of American history behind them. It is just individualism and selfishness that makes people believe they are somehow exempt from the solemn duty of pushing back against hatred where it counts most; that somehow, surely, their beloved Auntie with 1488 tattooed on her arm *just out of sight when she's wearing sleeves* isn't that dangerous.
Well she was. She is. And while she was all cutesy-bootsy with you, she was making sure Black people couldn't get loans or housing 8+ hours out of every weekday for 40 years. Getting her relatives to just shrug was all she needed to do to ruin thousands upon thousands of lives and continue the merciless train of white supremacy rolling over blood-soaked tracks lain by Asian folks past the labor of Black folks through the lands of Indigenous folks.
Remember this: they completely purged Communists from political and public life and made the word itself basically a slur. But they never purged Nazis, did they? Look up who the first NASA scientists were. Look up Operation Paperclip. Remember, also, that the Nazis were not a unique evil, but one inspired by the good old US of A. All that is happening now is the inevitable result of this country's original sins. And the primary burden to fight it is the people who stand to inherit the wages of these sins.
The question is: will you? The gods themselves await your answer. And your action.
