The 12 Values Collective Agreement

Guiding Principles of Revolutionary Community

Here is the 12 Values Agreement I wrote which encapsulates my political thinking and shapes the actions and work of the communities I’ve initiated, presented here so you can start your own with the same guiding principles, under your own auspices and with your own friends, family, and followers. Whatever you’re doing, adopting these as a North Star will help keep your group aligned, without the need for attaching a particular ideology that becomes an identity in and of itself. Feel free to use and share this for your own purposes!

As a community with a syncretic politic (i.e. not just a single governing ideology that takes precedence, but a living, flexible blend of all that is important to us), we are not here to tell you as an individual what to do or how to live your life. However, the below values are non-negotiable and not up for debate in this space. Identity, location, ability, etc all factor in to what personal choices we make, but as a server these principles are our guiding stars and if you post something that goes against them, expect pushback! We assume good faith and best intentions, but love is also knowing when to encourage folks to do better.

When interacting in the server, feel free to lead where you are knowledgeable and centered on an issue, hush and learn where you are not. Though these issues are all vital to all of us, the fabric of this quilt is made strong by us each fluidly stepping up as leaders and stepping back as supporters as needed.

Server values, in no particular order, are:

1. *Anticapitalism*

We all have to interact with this system to survive and it is impossible for any of us to fully live anticapitalist values. “No ethical consumption under capitalism” means that, for example, if you flipped a single light switch or charged a device or put fuel in your vehicle today, you materially supported capitalism. There’s no way not to until we bring it down.

However, we believe that refusing to try in every way that one can on an individual level makes it more possible for systems to continued. Your one dollar does not make Amazon run, but if you don’t have to give it to them, all the better. Your piece of trash is not why there is a Great Pacific Trash Patch, but in a better world systems would support the better choices we should be making.

Boycotting and divesting isn’t just for you-know-where. We are the Imperial Core and the more we show others how to live an anticapitalist lifestyle, the easier it will be to change hearts and minds as well as, vitally, systems.

This includes the global fight for worker’s rights, wages, and stolen labor value.

2. *Antiracism*

We fight anti-Blackness and anti-Indigenousness (including from BIPOC!) as original sins of the current world order, but also stand firmly and animally against anti-immigrant sentiment, genuine antisemitism (as Jewish people are indeed a minority group containing all hues with a long history of persecution), Asian hate, prejudice in general, etc. We can, and indeed must, do all this simultaneously, in all the ways these present and with an intersectional lens.

3. *Decolonialism*

Land Back and Indigenous Leadership/Stewardship are the hole in the boat for many (white especially but many westerners, period). Leftists, anarchists, communists, and even revolutionaries often fail to include environmental justice, an end to extractivism, and restoration. We belong to the earth, not the other way around, and Indigenous people worldwide must be looked to as leaders, regardless of how the machinations of society are constructed otherwise.

4. *Anti-imperialism*

War is the great evil. The Pentagon/our military is the world’s greatest polluter as well as the greatest purveyor of violence. The “defense” industry is just the global vulture class using the flesh and bones of the world’s people to redraw invisible lines and stick flagpoles into the backs of fallen soldiers as they play a game of Risk in the real world that nobody asked for, needs, or actually wants. Borders are fake lines drawn into our living earth, enforced by murder. If you need a passport to move around on the only planet we’re certain humans have ever known, you are not free.

5. *Intersectional/Decolonial Feminism*

The subjugation of the feminine is another of the foundational sins of the current order. Sexual/gender based legislation and violence makes everything more fraught for the femmes of the global population, usually by beating kindness and connection out of the mascs of the population from an early age so they’re more willing (and able) to enact that violence themselves. All of us are affected by misogyny and fighting for reproductive choice and justice is necessary if any of us are to be free.

Note: White/Glass Ceiling/Imperial Feminism often turns the conversation of feminism in Western countries not to liberation for all, but a race to bring some women/femmes (mostly white ones, obv) closer to the power and status of White Men. We DON’T fuck with TERFs/FARTs here and if Trans women are not included in your feminism, it’s trash.

6. *Disability Justice*

Everyone will, eventually and in some way, experience disability. Like Blackness (with which disability intersects in ways many of us need to be more aware of, ijs) disability is often a major way that laws which will be used on the wider populace are tested. If disabled people are provided for, conditions for the rest of us will be improved as well. It’s not about any particular disability as much as the baseline truth that to improve a society in a lasting way, you raise the floor, not the ceiling. This includes fighting fatphobia and other concepts as well!

7. *Pro-Alphabet Mafia*

We queer af around here and encourage y’all to explore your own identity. If asked to put a fine point on it, I don’t even believe 100% heterosexuality or binary gender exists, but that’s a whole convo. A literal curse upon all states, laws and people that would damn us to the grey sameness of cis-heteropatriarchal monogamy and the nuclear family as the only option.

8. *Sex Positivity*

Often justice and political spaces are expected to be, as the song goes, dry as a page of the King James version. Here we believe that open discussion and encouragement of life-affirming behavior includes eliminating slut-shaming, body shaming, and chastity politics. Of course individual, conditional, and subject to, like, not being a creep, never feel like you need to pretend that sexuality is not important to you in some way. Sex positivity also includes Asexual people, as accepting how people want to engage and in what ways means accepting that some aren’t interested! Having said that, Ace folks may often have to self-regulate around these topics as we believe hiding things just because they are sexual in nature feeds quite easily into default programming of the overculture. And of course directing sexual energy at (as opposed to in the presence of) a person to whom it isn’t appropriate or desired is not sex-positive but abusive. But we know that, right? 😉

Sex Positivity also fights the overculture by decommodifying our bodies and returning agency to us as individuals. The foundation of misogyny is treating bodies that can give birth as if they belong to the vulture class and not to the humans themselves. Fuck that. And also whomever you want.

Also, we are obviously, loudly, and openly pro-SW. The problem is the W, not the S.

Also virginity does not exist. What a goofy concept.

9. *ACAB*

Class traitor-ass servants of empire, human robot soldiers of the vulture class, the bulwark of capital, and defenders of whatever fucked up status quo exists in every country everywhere, enforcers of laws (aka legal fictions with the inherent threat of violence enacted upon those who do not obey the State for whatever, or no, reason) are the enemy of the people and should always be regarded as such. None of these other values would be necessary for the people to defend if these hired goons did not exist.

ACAB also includes knights, Samurai, and Paw Patrol. Die mad about it.

10. *Pro-Witchcraft, Magick & Decolonized Spiritual Practice*

The Abrahamic religions, Christianity obviously, notoriously, and by far to the front, and the texts that spawned them have been the primary way to consolidate patriarchy and social control for rulers and the global vulture class worldwide, for millenia. The sundering of people from earth under the heading of rules handed down by a highly gendered, violent, abusive, and self-admittedly jealous father (intentionally not capitalized) figure. The consolidation of whiteness also plays in here, as ancestral religions present in Europe were brutally eradicated from their own people in order to homogenize the people under a new, more easily controlled, umbrella. Houses of worship in these religions are often so sturdily constructed not just for beauty or glory to their god (the same god btw), but because that’s where they hold the wealth they steal from their people to give to ruling class structures.

Important note: Intersectionality must be considered here, i.e. the Black church is sometimes syncretized with African tradition and is in many ways responsible for our survival in the hardest times, despite the harms it also causes, Jewish people are both a cultural and religious group that has faced tremendous violence, Muslims face great discrimination for their faiths, etc. However, all of the Abrahamic religions have been involved, in some way, in steering societies towards the main harms our world has to offer.

Having said that, people of ALL faiths are welcome here, but be aware that we view deconstructing these (again, Christianity especially!) as part of moving towards greater connection with spirit, the planet, the universe, and each other, in ways that may be upsetting or even triggering.

11. *Covid/Pandemic Consciousness/Public Health*

This is a place where there is no room for debate as to whether or not C19 is a dangerous ongoing pandemic and mass disabling event that intersects, pretty much, all of the above values. Any comments suggesting that mitigations are unnecessary will not be allowed to remain and will result in at very least a warning. We hope and will support/encourage that folks live a covid conscious lifestyle but also understand that may be more difficult for some for various reasons, especially as laws and social mores around mitigation have moved in the absolute wrong direction.

If you post a picture in a restaurant or concert unmasked we won’t ask you to leave and probably won’t say anything, but we’re def judging you and you should expect that!

12. *Love*

What is the point of any of this - of fighting against the tide against impossible odds, of giving up safety and comfort to stand out, of standing on business when it’s easier to go along to get along, of literally exposing ourselves to more danger from the increasingly overt fascism upon which this country was built - if not in service of the love we have for each other, ourselves, and every joy in the one life we know on the one glittering blue gem we call home? Revolutionary Love believes we deserve so much better than this, and it challenges us to act because if we are going to give each other a better world, we’re going to have to be the ones to build it.

It’s not what we want to destroy that drives us, but what we want to build, to protect. In the end, it is always about love.
