Under The Eagle
A Poem By Logan Grendel
The animal that represents
Our country is
No accident
Not so regal
When viewed from beneath
Moreso rapacious
Ravenous
Relentless
Not so noble
When darkening the sky
Splitting silence with shrill shrieks
Shadow cast over, looming
Wingspan, horizon to horizon
Yet growing larger still
Then a cacophony
As mortal wounds dealt
Flesh & blood & bone
Then death
(For the fortunate)
Then the spoils are carried aloft
Off
To waiting children who
Did not see how came this meal
USA, USA
Bird of prey, fresh kill made
